BAN TO GAIN MONEY

On oct 2, 2008 we went to a ciggarate shop just opp from our college. asked for a ciggaratte, he gave it and told us not to smoke there. upon asking why.. he answered its a public place and also its near the bus stop.

As we all know that smoking in public places has been banned from oct 2, 2008.But many of us have forgotten that selling of tobacco products have been banned within 100 metres of any educational institutions since 2003. The point here is that, is the rule followed ? a big NO. And authority concerned are least bothered to implement the ban.

As if the rule (100m restrictions) is followed almost more than half of the students will not smoke during college timings. As many are just passive smokers who smoke just for fashion and fun. We personally had done a simple survey around our college and the figure we obtained was definitely not good.

survey results
Total no of shops (cigg.) around the college = 5 (Note that they are all within 10m from the college gate)
total no of ciggaratte sold daily from all = more than 3000.

And we are sure that it is same for all the eng college and other college around. If you go around the city, you will find almost all the colleges have a ciggarate shop within 10m of range. Take RVCE, PESIT, MSRIT, BNMIT, DSIT to name the few.

Ban is the best method for the government to earn money. like in our college we asked the tobacco products seller what about following the ban (100m restriction). He duly replied that the ciggarate company (for eg.) gives the fine to the government, so why don't we sell than. As the company (ciggarate) earns more profit by giving the fine and selling than not selling within the 100m of educational institutions. So next time if government is forcing any ban, its just that they are short of money.
